Greatness of Mothers

The Foundation of Strong Societies and Nations

Napoleon Bonaparte once said, “Give me good mothers and I will give you a great nation.” This powerful statement encapsulates the vital role that mothers play in shaping not only individuals but entire civilizations. Throughout history, the influence of mothers has been profound, fostering strong moral values, instilling discipline, and nurturing the minds that go on to shape the future. A good mother is not just the backbone of her family; she is the foundation of a thriving society and a prosperous nation.

Mothers: The Architects of Civilization

Imam Ali (AS), the greatest leader of all time, emphasized the reverence and respect due to mothers when he said, “Do not use the sharpness of your speech on the mother who taught you how to speak.” This wisdom serves as a reminder of the sacred bond between a mother and her child. Unfortunately, in today’s world, we often forget the power of our words and the impact they have on those around us.

In an age where language has become increasingly coarse, and where the use of foul and abusive words is not only tolerated but even glamorized, we must pause and reflect: How did we get here? Why have we become so careless with our speech? From social media influencers to renowned speakers, authors, and even motivational gurus, the excessive use of offensive language is now common. This trend raises a critical question: Where did this culture of verbal abuse originate, and what kind of world is it creating for future generations?

The Rise of Abusive Language: A Cultural Shift

One cannot ignore the growing influence of Western media, particularly Hollywood, and the impact of Bollywood, where explicit and offensive language has become mainstream. While entertainment industries are often reflections of societal changes, they also serve as catalysts that reinforce and normalise certain behaviours. But where are our ethics? Where is our sense of responsibility as human beings? If we are not mindful of our words, we risk eroding the very foundation of respect and decency that holds societies together.

The normalization of abusive language is not just a matter of individual expression—it is a symptom of a deeper societal issue. When we fail to communicate with kindness and respect, we contribute to a culture of aggression, insensitivity, and moral decline. Words have power. They shape thoughts, influence emotions, and set the tone for interpersonal relationships. A society that normalizes verbal abuse risks creating generations devoid of empathy, respect, and understanding.

The Overburdened Mother: A Crisis of Modern Society

In the midst of all this, mothers—the very architects of a child’s moral and emotional foundation—are increasingly burdened with responsibilities beyond their natural role. The demands of modern life force many mothers to juggle multiple roles, struggling to meet financial obligations while also providing care and guidance to their children. In the process, the nurturing aspect of motherhood often takes a back seat, not by choice but by necessity.

This raises an important question: Why have we placed such a heavy burden on today’s mothers? A mother’s role is irreplaceable, yet society continues to undervalue her contributions. If we truly believe in building a strong and ethical future, we must create an environment where mothers are supported, respected, and empowered to fulfil their fundamental role without unnecessary pressures.

Reclaiming Respect, Responsibility, and Reverence for Mothers

Mothers are God’s most beautiful creation, nurturing families just as nature cares for its plants. If we wish to see a more compassionate and moral society, we must begin with how we treat and support our mothers. We must:

  1. Reinforce Respect for Mothers – Teach children from a young age to value, respect, and honor their mothers.
  2. Revive the Culture of Mindful Speech – Encourage the use of kind and respectful words, replacing abusive language with expressions of gratitude and understanding.
  3. Reduce the Burden on Mothers – Create policies and social structures that allow mothers to focus on raising their children without excessive financial and social pressures.
  4. Hold Media and Influencers Accountable – Question and challenge the normalization of offensive language in entertainment and public discourse.

Let's rewind and remind ourselves to take a moment and reflect—when was the last time I asked my mother how she is feeling and whether she needs anything?

Mothers do not need just one day to mark their outstanding contributions and sacrifices. Great mothers always remain our ideal. Let’s take a moment to thank our mothers for making us whoever we are. Her silent prayers, extraordinary hard work, and long, unpaid hours can never and shall never be forgotten.

I salute my mother for being so strong, fighting like a hero against all odds. I have not seen a stronger or more determined lady in my whole life. I am a proud daughter. Lastly, I want to say to my mom: You held my hand and taught me how to stand. Now I hold your hand to help you walk gracefully. God bless our mothers.

After all, the future of humanity rests in the hands of the mothers who raise it.
